Oral Health Promotion for Most Adults
Proper oral hygiene, regular and good visits to the dentist and well-balanced diet and nutrition are essential in having a healthy smile throughout adulthood. However, at some point, even with brushing and flossing regularly, adults may face certain oral health issues. This may include gum disease, receding gums, tooth decay, teeth discolouration, misalignment of teeth and jaws and impacted teeth (unerupted or partially erupted teeth that cannot fully erupt due to crowding, conflicting teeth position, misalignment). Broken teeth caused by traumas may also happen. If visits to the dentist are not done regularly, small oral problem can get worse which may lead to severe tooth problem. This can cause inconvenience to the individual and can lead to more costly alternatives to save the tooth and worst, extracting the tooth. A well-informed adult (of any profession, culture or socio-economic level) about the issues that effect oral health allows making healthy choices, that is, choice between prevention or treatment.
