PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:This CD was designed for ALL children who were born or grew up outside the Philippines who are not with the Tagalog language and Filipino culture. The audio CD features a set of Filipino legend, fable, folktale, proverb and tradition with emphases on respective values encompassing each narration. Jinky Marsh (www.jinkymarsh.com)was the principal storyteller and voice artist of the narrations.
Dr Floro Quibuyen, historian of the Philippine national hero Dr Jose Rizal, was consulted on the fable Monkey and the Turtle which was fondly retold by Rizal to his nephews and nieces to teach its moral lessons. Sir Danilo Peralta, Knights of Rizal Sydney Chapter Commander and Founding President of the Tagalog Association of Australia shared his insight on the proverb "He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination." also made known by Dr Jose Rizal.
Fr Elmer Ibarra, SVD gave his message on the joyful birth of Christ and its unique celebration of in the Philippines. The Filipino nursery rhymes were accompanied by the music of the YAPAK Cultural Group. The group is a collective of singer-songwriters, visual artist, theater artist and poets whose aim is to promote and popularise Filipino culture in Australia. Each member dresses up in national costume while performing and singing is accompanied by various Philippine indigenous instruments.
A game of riddles was also part of the compilation which was played by children aged 7 to 11 years. The riddlers were Juliana Carvajal (8yo) and Cameron Marsh (7yo) and the Co-Elliott siblings (Brendan, 11yo and Sabrina, 8yo) as well as the Brokke brothers (Peter, 10yo and Dominic, 8yo) joined in the game and guessed the riddles presented. A song tract entitled Ang Bata (A Child) composed by Ferdinand Dimaano (1985) depicts the sad life of a Filipino street child. Inclusion of this tract in the compilation hopes to ignite the listeners' view on sharing one's knowledge, time and resources to help alleviate such condition of poverty.
