Children's Week 2021 Celebration at the Consulate General Sydney
In celebration of Children's Week in January pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation Number 190, s 1964 declared by former Philippine President Diosdado Macapagal, Jinky was given the honour and privilege to work with children and promote Filipino folk songs and folklore at the Philippine Consulate General Sydney. Jinky retold the story and message of Lazy Juan. She was joined in by 12 year old Benjamin Paulino and 10yo Cameron Marsh in promoting Filipino folksongs. Benjamin played the traditional Tagalog song, Bahay Kubo (Nipa Hut) with his violin while Cameron played the Illongo lullaby Ili-Ili tulog Anay with his flute. Jinky joined Cameron with humming and singing the song written in Hiligaynon.

“Working with children is a great privilege. Encouraging their participation in community events that make them appreciate their roots and identity teach them the values of open-mindedness and adaptability. Providing them opportunities to channel their abilities and energy will assist them in being whole-rounded individuals. When one sees another having such enjoyable and positive effects, that’s when inspiration ignites to emulation.” - Jinky

"Languages, in particular, are of strategic importance for people and the planet considering its complex implications for identity, communication, social integration, education and development. However, due to the processes of globalisation, languages are increasingly under threat, or disappearing altogether. When languages fade, so does the world's rich tapestry of cultural diversity." - United Nations

Song Theme : ACT on your dreams and aspirations. If not, WHEN?
HEROES OF THE WORLD is a musical rendition of the Filipino-Australian community's poetic tribute
to Australia's 2019-2020 bushfire heroes. Some of the best Filipino-Australian singing stars lent
their voices to the original music and lyrics of composer-arranger Oliver Gadista for a 15-track collection
of touching melodies for the listening pleasure of all Australians.
Heroes of the World was a project conceived in January 2020, recorded in February 2020
and released in April 2020. The album was a labour of love by volunteers to raise funds
for relief of those firefighters who put their bodies on the line, some of whom, sadly, lost their lives.

Filipino community members attending the Balagtasan (Philippine Debate in Tagalog language) were able to secure a copy for themselves gave favourable feedback on the compilation. This audio CD was inspired by Jinky's own children and husband. This was designed for ALL children who were born or grew up outside the Philippines who are not familiar with the Tagalog language and Filipino culture. It is recommended to have this audio CD played while on a medium to long drive or before bedtime. The audio CD also encourages other non-Filipino speaking nationals everywhere to learn and appreciate Filipino culture. It features a set of Filipino legend, fable, folktale, proverb and tradition with emphases on respective moral values encompassing each narration.
Jinky was the principal storyteller and voice artist of the narrations. |
Dr Floro Quibuyen, historian of the Philippine national hero Dr Jose Rizal, was consulted on the fable Monkey and the Turtle which was fondly retold by Rizal to his nephews and nieces to teach its moral lessons. Sir Danilo Peralta, Knights of Rizal Sydney Chapter Commander and Founding President of the Tagalog Association of Australia shared his insight on the proverb "He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination." also made known by Dr Jose Rizal. Fr Elmer Ibarra, SVD gave his message on the joyful birth of Christ and its unique celebration of in the Philippines.
The Filipino nursery rhymes were accompanied by the music of the YAPAK Cultural Group. The group is a collective of singer-songwriters, visual artist, theater artist and poets whose aim is to promote and popularise Filipino culture in Australia. Each member dresses up in national costume while performing and singing is accompanied by various Philippine indigenous instruments. |
A game of riddles was also part of the compilation which was played by children aged 7 to 11 years. The riddlers were Juliana Carvajal (8yo) and Cameron Marsh (7yo) and the Co-Elliott siblings (Brendan, 11yo and Sabrina, 8yo) as well as the Brokke brothers (Peter, 10yo and Dominic, 8yo) joined in the game and guessed the riddles presented. A song tract entitled Ang Bata (A Child) composed by Ferdinand Dimaano (1985) depicts the sad life of a Filipino street child. Inclusion of this tract in the compilation hopes to ignite the listeners' view on sharing one's knowledge, time and resources to help alleviate such condition of poverty.
GABAYAN. HIMUKIN. PUKAWIN ANG BATANG KAISIPAN ng kagandahang asal, wastong pag-uugali at sariling kultura at tradisyon. GUIDE. ENCOURAGE. INSPIRE young minds with proper manners, good conduct and own culture and tradition. |

Filipino Australian artists revisit the life of Cabesang Tales
and revive the Calamba Hacienda Case in
Knights of Rizal Sydney Chapter production
Jinky joined Filipino-Australian artists in the multi-media-lecture-musical production of Cabesang Tales
based on the Philippine National hero's (Dr Jose Rizal) novels Noli Me Tangere and El Felibusterismo.
The production was a product of highly commended lecture of historian Dr Floro Quibuyen
held earlier this year at the Philippine Consulate Office in Sydney. The presentation showcased the land dispute during the Spanish regime in the Philippines and the eviction of original settlers of the land, the Calamba Hacienda Case.
Highly-regarded Filipino-Australian actor Felino Deloso played the lead role Cabesang Tales while Jinky played his wife, narrator and one of the two soloists in the musical production. Other actors involved were Max Lopez, Danilo Rosales, Marilyn Mendez, Rico Banderas and the Yapak Cultural Group. The production received rave reviews. This presentation was based on the research study of Dr Quibuyen and was directed by Ferdie Dimaano.
The Knights of Rizal Manila headquarters invited
the Sydney Chapter to have a re-run in Manila in May 2018. Meanwhile, Knights of Rizal
is set to have another production highlighting the great influence of Rizal, his brother Paciano,
whom he based the character of Pilosopong Tasio in the aforementioned novels.

"Tagumpay" means success. Success isn’t just what one accomplishes but what one inspires others to achieve. Radio Tagumpay encourages success through hardwork, ingenuity and perseverance amongst Filipino-Australians and hopes such success inspires others to do the same.
